Then, connect the other end to the regulator’s BAT. Now, observe the charge rate. If it increases, the problem is in the regulator, and you should replace it. If neither of the two tests works, then there is the last test that you can use to check on the regulator’s condition.
This test is similar to the first one; you will check if the regulator is well-grounded. First, get a short length of a wire, then connect one end to the regulator’s FLD. Then, connect the other end to a fine ground. Now, observe the charging rate. If it increases, then you need to change the regulator.
2. Overcharged Battery
- First, you can get a short length of wire and operate the engine at medium speed. Then connect one end of the wire to the regulator’s base, while the other end is connected to a fine ground. If the battery now shows normal voltage, then the fault is in the regulator, and you need to ground it properly.
- The overcharged battery is the opposite of a low voltage battery. Instead of connecting the regulator’s FLD to a fine ground, you need to disconnect the wire connected to it. It’s necessary to do this test while the engine is operating at medium speed. If the charging rate is still constant, the wires connecting the generator to the regulator are grounded.
- Another reason is that the generator’s field in the generator is grounded. However, if the charging rate decreases, you need to replace the regulator.
